S'Algar is a small, peaceful resort on the south-east corner of Menorca, about 7km from the capital Mahon (Mao) and a twenty minute drive from the Airport. The villas are set along a gently sloping limestone cliff, with fantastic views over the Mediterranean. Not having its own beach means that S'Algar is quiet and civilised and never crowded. In one publication, it was described as the best run resort in Menorca and you can see why.
It consists mainly of private villas and low-build apartments, having only two hotels and four apartment complexes. It is the perfect place to have a peaceful and relaxing holiday and as a base to explore the rest of the island and its beautiful beaches.
Although there is no beach as such in S'Algar itself, you can swim in the crystal clear water at the waterfront or sunbathe on the sunbathing terraces. The pretty beach at Cala Alcalfar is a twenty minute walk away along the sea path (or a five minute drive), and there are courtesy buses which run from the Las Palmeras apartments and the two hotels to the nearby beach at the resort of Punta Prima. There are two restaurants in the village squares of S'Algar, offering a wide variety of menus and children's menus, and a wood-fired Pizza restaurant at the Las Palmeras apartments complex. There are also restaurants at the S'Algar Hotel which are available to non-residents.The panaderia is an absolute must, and is open all day from very early in the morning. There is a very good supermarket in the village square, also open long hours, one at the San Luis Hotel and a small shop stocking essentials at the Las Palmeras apartments.
There is evening entertainment every evening except Sundays at the San Luis Hotel during the season, beginning with a children's mini-disco, and this is available to all. Details from Hotel Reception. The Dinky Bar at the waterfront is a lovely spot to sit with a cold drink, enjoy the fabulous sea views and watch the world go very slowly by. For the young ones, the S'Algar Express "train" runs from 19:00 in the evening until 22:00, stopping frequently on its circuit around S'Algar.
Menorca is the easternmost island in the Balearics, just a short two hour flight from Gatwick. Flights are available from most UK airports. S'Algar is situated about 7km south of the capital, Mahon (Mao), and is only 20 minutes by road from the airport. The Island is only 50km long and 15km wide, and along its 216km of coastline you will find over 100 beaches, from the largest at Son Bou, to the tiniest at Cala Rafalet (about 2 towels wide!).
Menorca has excellent roads and car hire is easily available, either at the airport or from local offices in S'Algar during your stay.
